WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (Jan. 23, 2013) - After an outstanding performance
at the Navy Open last Saturday, William and Mary men's gymnast Landon Funiciello has been selected as the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference
Gymnast of the Week.
En route to helping lead then-No.
14 W&M to a second-place finish at the meet, which included a win against
then-No. 12 Temple, Funiciello earned top honors on rings with a 15.35.
Additionally, the Baldwinsville, N.Y., native placed fourth on floor (14.4) and
parallel bars (14.5), while finishing 14th on vault (14.25).
A former NCAA All-America honoree
on rings, Funiciello currently ranks second nationally on rings this season
with an average score of 15.375.
In addition to his success in the
gym, Funiciello has also excelled academically and has earned a pair of W&M
Provost Awards and was a first-team Academic All-American.
The 12th-ranked Tribe will return
to action when it competes in a dual meet at Navy this Sunday at 3 p.m.
