No. 12 Tribe Men?s Gymnastics Posts Season-High Score in Win at Navy

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (Jan. 27, 2013) - The No. 12 William and Mary men's gymnastics team earned a season-high score en route to defeating Navy, 412.85-398.45, on Sunday afternoon in Annapolis, Md.

In addition to recording its best score of the season, W&M also defeated the Mids in five of the six events. Juniors Daniel Potemski and Landon Funiciello highlighted the Tribe's individual performances with two event titles apiece, while freshman Neal Courter and sophomore Michael Deitz claimed the floor and high bar titles, respectively.

W&M garnered the top three finishers on floor and posted a season-best 70.65. In addition to winning the individual event title, Courter's score of 14.55 puts him seventh in the Tribe's record books. Deitz placed second with a career-high 14.4, while Funiciello was third with a 14.3.

Potemski (14.15) and freshman Keaton Ackerman (13.9) finished first and second, respectively, on pommel horse and helped the team tally a season-high 68.05.

Funiciello registered his third consecutive win on rings this season with an impressive mark of 15.25. Potemski also came up big with a 14.2, while sophomore Peter Ten Eyck totaled a 13.2 to help the Tribe post a season-high 67.95.

Potemski garnered his second title of the afternoon on rings with a 14.55. Courter (14.25) and Deitz (14.1) also contributed to the squad's 70.50 in the event.

As it did on floor, the Tribe earned the top three scores on parallel bars and was led by Funiciello's winning mark of 14.45. Junior Sam Patterson's 14.25 tied for ninth in W&M's record book, while Ten Eyck earned a 14.05 to place third in the event.

Deitz won the high bar title with a 13.6, while Potemski finished second with a 13.45. Ackerman was just outside the top-three finishers with a 13.2 and helped contribute to the squad's total of 65.8.

Competing in all-around for the first time as a collegiate gymnast, Ackerman placed second with a 79.5.

The Tribe will return to action when it competes at Army next Friday.
