The William and Mary women's basketball team travels to Colonial Athletic
Association foe Georgia State on Thursday, Feb. 7. Tip-off in Atlanta, Ga., is scheduled for 7

Scouting the Tribe
The Green and Gold enter Thursday's contest with an overall
record of 5-15 and a 3-6 mark in CAA play.
In its last outing, the Tribe fell to in-state rival James Madison,
68-63, at Kaplan Arena. Senior Emily
Correal paced the Green and Gold with a game-high 28 points, while sophomore
Kaitlyn Mathieu chipped in 10 points and eight rebounds.
Senior Emily Correal, who has posted five double-doubles on
the year, ranks fifth in the CAA in scoring (15.9) and tied for seventh in
rebounding (8.0). Classmate Janine
Aldridge ranks fourth in the nation with 3.4 3-pointers per contest, while her
13.8 ppg rank eighth in the CAA. The
Massapequa, N.Y., native leads the league with 64 made 3-pointers, while
ranking second in steals with 54.
Sophomore Anna Kestler continues to improve as she ranks fifth in the
CAA in assists-to-turnover ratio (1.6) and ninth in assists per game (3.0).
The Tribe is scoring 62.8 points per contest, which ranks
sixth in the CAA. On the defensive end,
the Green and Gold leads the CAA in steals per game with 11.2. Sharing the basketball has been a key
ingredient for the Tribe this season as W&M ranks third in the CAA in
assists per game at 15.1. From 3-point
territory, W&M has netted 129 trifectas, which rank second in the
conference only behind Northeastern (163).
Scouting the Panthers
Under the direction of third-year head coach Sharon
Baldwin-Tener, Georgia State enters the matchup against the Tribe with an
overall record of 10-10 and a CAA mark of 2-7.
In its last contest, the Panthers fell at Drexel, 79-55, as freshman
Ashlee Cole and sophomore Ashley Watson led GSU with 13 and 10 points,
respectively.
As a team, Georgia State is averaging 60.8 ppg, which ranks
eighth in the CAA. Defensively, GSU
ranks fifth in the league, as it has held opponents to score just 60.1 points
per contest. In addition, the Panthers
own the league's second best field goal percentage defense (.359) to go along
with the top 3-point percentage defense (.261).
Sophomore Kayla Nolan leads the Panthers in scoring at 10.3
ppg, which ranks 16th in the CAA. Senior
Cody Paulk leads the league in blocked shots at 2.6 per contest, while her 8.4
rebounds per outing stand sixth. After starting the season 8-2, Georgia State
has suffered setbacks in eight of its last 10 contests, as it has yet to win a
CAA home contest in 2012-13.
News and Notes:
- Thursday's contest will be the 12th meeting between
W&M and Georgia State, as the Tribe owns an 8-3 series edge. In Atlanta, Ga., the Green and Gold has
posted a winning ledger of 3-2 as its largest margin of victory at the GSU
Sports Arena came during the 2007-08 season en way of a 75-57 triumph. Furthermore, Thursday's contest will be the
first of two meetings between the Tribe and Panthers this season. On Feb. 26, Georgia State will travel to
Williamsburg, Va., for a 7 p.m. game at Kaplan Arena.
- The William and Mary women's basketball
team will host its annual Breast Cancer Awareness game "Hoops for a
Cure" on Friday, Feb. 15, against Northeastern at 8 p.m. Admission
to the contest will be free of charge for fans who wear pink. Promotional
t-shirts will go on sale prior to Feb. 15 and can be purchased at upcoming
men's basketball home games or by calling the W&M Women's Basketball Office
at 757-221-3140. T-shirts will be sold for the price of $10 for students
and $15 for adults. This year's "Hoops for a Cure" game against
the Huskies will be televised on Comcast Sports Network Mid-Atlantic and the
Comcast Sports Network New England.
- During
the Tribe's recent three-game winning streak, the Green and Gold have utilized
strong second half's en route to its victories. W&M has shot a
combined 43-of-87 (.494 percent) in the second half, which was highlighted by a
blistering 18-of-27 (66.7 percent) performance against Old
Dominion. Additionally, the Tribe has led by double digits in the second
half of each victory.
- Senior Emily Correal has made 104
starts for the Green and Gold over the course of her career, which ranks fourth
in school history. Jen Sobota currently owns the school record with 113
starts. Additionally, Correal is only three blocks shy of becoming only
the fourth player in school history to post 100 career blocks.
Furthermore, Correal posted her fifth double-double of the season in the win at
UNCW (12 points and 10 rebounds), and now has 23 career double-doubles, which rank
fourth in W&M history. The Venetia, Pa., native has netted
double-digit scoring performances on 57 occasions during her career, which rank
ninth in the Tribe record books.
- Senior Janine Aldridge, who is the
College's all-time leader in 3-pointers made with 285, is in range to become
W&M's all-time leader in steals. The Massapequa, N.Y., native is just
20 thefts shy of passing Jen Sobota '03 for the all-time mark (257). In
the College's outing at Northeastern, Aldridge set a career-high with seven
steals against the Huskies. This season, Aldridge is averaging 2.8 steals
per game, which stands second in the CAA. Aldridge and Sobota are the
only players in W&M history to tally 1,000 points, 200 3-pointers and 200
steals.
