WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The William and Mary women's basketball team
will host Colonial Athletic Association foe Northeastern on Friday, Feb. 15, at
8 p.m. The contest against the Huskies
will be the Tribe's annual breast cancer awareness "Hoops for a Cure" game. Admission to the game will be free of charge
for fans who wear pink. Additionally,
the affair will be televised on Comcast Sports Network New England and the
Comcast Sports Network Mid-Atlantic.
All Tribe basketball home games will be available at TribeAthletics
TV. Fans can purchase an annual TribeAthletics TV package (12 months)
for $69.95. The four-month TribeAthletics TV lineup is available for $39.95,
while fans will be able to buy monthly passes at a price of $10.95 each.
Scouting the Tribe
W&M enters the tilt against the Huskies with an overall
record of 5-17 and a 3-8 mark in CAA action.
In its last outing, the Green and Gold fell at George Mason, 57-56, as a
GMU jump shot with three seconds remaining lifted the Patriots to the win.
Senior Emily Correal leads W&M with 15.9 ppg and 7.9
rebounds per contest, which rank fifth and eighth in the CAA, respectively. Classmate Janine Aldridge is pouring in 13.6
points a game, which stands eighth in the league. Additionally, the Massapequa, N.Y., native
ranks fourth in the nation with 3.3 3-pointers per outing. Aldridge also ranks first in the conference
in 3-pointers made with 70 and second in steals at 2.8 per contest.
As a team, the Green and Gold is scoring 62.0 ppg, which
stands sixth in the CAA. Furthermore,
the Tribe ranks first in the league in steals per game (10.9) and second in
assists per contest (15.0).
Scouting the Huskies
Northeastern enters Friday's contest with a record of 13-8
and a league ledger of 6-4. After
dropping back-to-back contests to Drexel (85-73) and Delaware (77-50), the
Huskies have rebounded with consecutive wins over Towson (59-56) and Hofstra
(59-57).
Senior Deanna Kerkhof leads a trio of Huskies averaging
double figures this season. Kerkhof is averaging
14.9 points per contest, while red-shirt senior Kashaia Cannon and junior Jewel
Tunstall are netting 12.6 and 11.7 ppg, respectively. Kerkhof ranks seventh in the league in
scoring and second in 3-point field-goal percentage (.395), while Tunstall
stands fourth in rebounding (8.6 per game).
The Huskies rank second in the CAA in scoring with 66.1
points per game. Furthermore,
Northeastern's 8.1 3-pointers per contest are tops in the league, while its
field goal percentage of .407 stands third.
This season, NU leads the CAA in 3-pointers made with 170.
News and Notes:
- Friday night's
contest will be the 11th meeting between W&M and Northeastern, as the
Huskies own a 7-3 series advantage. The
game will also be the second meeting between the two schools as NU prevailed in
a 71-69 overtime affair against the Tribe in Boston, Mass., on Jan. 10. In that contest, seniors Emily Correal and
Janine Aldridge combined for 40 points as Correal tallied 21 points and seven
rebounds, while Aldridge poured in 19 points and a career-high seven steals.
- The William and Mary women's basketball

Georgia State to shoot just 32.8 percent (19-of-58) from the field, while it
held George Mason to 23-of-59 (39 percent) from the floor.
- Senior Janine Aldridge, who is the
College's all-time leader in 3-pointers made with 291, is in reach to become
W&M's all-time leader in steals. The Massapequa, N.Y., native is just
17 thefts shy of passing Jen Sobota '03 for the all-time mark (257). In
the College's outing at Northeastern, Aldridge set a career-high with seven
steals against the Huskies. This season, Aldridge is averaging 2.8 steals
per game, which stands second in the CAA. Aldridge and Sobota are the
only players in W&M history to tally 1,000 points, 200 3-pointers and 200
steals.
