W&M Finishes Third at CAA Men's Golf Championships

The William and Mary men's golf team finished up play at the Colonial Athletic Association Championships Sunday with two of the top-three individuals and a third-place team finish.  UNCW won its third-straight title at 888 (+24), with James Madison in second (912) and the Tribe third at 916 (+52).  The Seahawks also took the individual medal, as Payne McLeod totaled 215 (-1) on the weekend.

The Tribe had both the second and the third-place finishers, placing two int he top three for the first time since 1985.  Sophomore Alex Hicks (Cape May Court House, N.J.) shot 75 Sunday to finish at 219 (+3) overall, and became the first Tribe golfer since Brent Paladino '09 in 2008 to earn runner-up honors.  Joining him on the all-tournament team was senior Jeremy Wells (Hopewell, Va.), who shot 71 (-1) to improve to third place at 220.  He is the first W&M golfer ever to finish third at the CAA Championships.  Sophomore Charlie Kern (Seattle, Wash.) carded a 73 in the final round to improve to a tie for 16th at 232 overall (+16), with junior Tanner Taddeo (Hendersonville, Tenn.) and sophomore Joey Shroyer (Victoria, Minn.) rounding out the team effort in 30th and 32nd place, respectively.  As a team, W&M collected 21 birdies in its "Tribe Birdies for Breast Cancer" campaign, raising the spring total to 115.

William and Mary will now await word of possible bids to the NCAA Regionals for the first time since 2002.  The selection show will be broadcast on NCAA.com next week, on Monday, May 6, at 9:00 p.m. Eastern.
