TribeAthletics.com recently caught up with William and Mary's championship track teams, fresh off of sweeping the two Colonial Athletic Association titles for the third time in program history. The Tribe completed the "double-double" of CAA championships, winning both cross country and both track and field titles, for the third time in conference history and is the only school ever to accomplish that feat.
William and Mary has wrapped the regular season and overall team portion of schedule, and heads into the start of summer waiting on word of NCAA Championship bids for a number of individuals. As many as 11 athletes could be invited to participate in the East section of the early rounds, which will be held next weekend (May 23-25) in Greensboro, N.C., and earn a chance to move on to the championship finals June 5-8 in Oregon. The preliminary start lists will be published around 3 p.m. on Thursday, May 16. If the Tribe were to get all 11 into the NCAA meet, it would mark just the second time in school history that 10 or more athletes reached the national championships (a program-record 14 advanced in 2010).
After the NCAA Championships, several athletes are also in contention to compete both internationally, and at the USAT&F Outdoor Track Championships in Iowa in late June. A complete schedule of dates is below.
