William and Mary senior Brandon Heroux (Westfield, N.J.) extended his college career for another two weeks on Thursday, placing third in the East Semifinals at the NCAA Championships in the javelin. Heroux threw the javelin a season-best 71.86m (235-9), the third-best effort in school history.
Thursday's effort was Heroux's third outstanding effort of his abbreviated spring season. He opened the year one month ago at the Penn Relays, where he took second overall at 71.85m (235-9), and then won his fourth-straight Colonial Athletic Association Championship with a conference-record throw of 71.34m (234-1). All three of Heroux's throws in 2012 rank among the W&M all-time top-five.
At the NCAA finals, the javelin championships will take place at 3:30 p.m. (Eastern), on June 7th. The top eight throwers will earn first-team USTFCCCA All-America honors, and athletes placing 9-16 will be named second-team All-Americans. All other competitors with a legal throw will be named honorable-mention All-America.
William and Mary has four more athletes competing in the NCAA East Preliminaries later on Thursday.
