The William and Mary volleyball team was recognized for having one of the top recruiting classes in the nation in 2012, as announced on PrepVolleyball.com.  This is the third year in a row that the Tribe has appeared among the nation’s best.

The class put together by head volleyball coach Melissa Aldrich Shelton ’91 and her staff includes Carolyn Albright (Raleigh, N.C.), Mallory Brickerd (Ashburn, Va.), Michelle Heath (Rustburg, Va.), Olivia Jebb (Cornwall, N.Y.), Dessi Koleva (Torrance, Calif.), and Jenna Strange (Leesburg, Va.).  W&M was the only CAA school to appear on the 77-team list.

“Our program is honored to again earn mention from PrepVolleyball.com for our incoming class,” said Shelton.  “From our coaches who evaluate talent and personality off campus to our current players who take the time to sell W&M and our program when the recruits come to campus, this accolade is recognition of a total team effort. I’m looking forward to adding such a competitive group to our team in August.”

The six incoming freshmen look to help the Tribe regain its place at the top of the conference in 2012, joining a young lineup that lost only two seniors to graduation and included nine freshmen and sophomores last fall.  On offense, the College returns over 96% of its service ace production (105 of 109) and 87% of its kills (1013 of 1169), while on defense, over 95% of the team’s digs (1521 of 1594) and 77% of its blocks (124 of 162) are back.
