Where are you from?
Somerset, New Jersey.
What high school did you go to?
Franklin High School.
What is Somerset known for?
It's really close to Rutgers University. But other than that, I guess it's known for me.
Currently, what's your favorite TV
Law & Order: SVU. It's interesting to see how they interact with rape survivors. That's something that I have been connected to in a way.
Are you part of the 1 in 4 program?
I am. I've been a member since my freshman year. Actually a couple guys on the team have been involved with it. Jonathan Grimes and I were members our freshman year. Then Kelly Fitzgerald came on a few years later, and now Jabrel Mines, Ethan Lee, and Trevor Springman are also members.
Can you briefly explain what that
It's an organization that educates men about sexual assault. Every single freshman and transfer student has to go through our program, and we educate the students about sexual assaults. It's an intense program, about an hour long. I went through it my freshman year, and then I joined later on that year, and every year we get more and more members who join. There's an interview process and everything, but we mean very well. We're trying change the world and make this statistic go from 1 in 4 rape survivors to 1 in 40, so we decrease these incidents. I still see people every now and then who I honestly don't know, but they see my face and remember me because I did their presentation. Some say and hi and ask me how I'm doing and some even remember my name, and it's cool because it means they remember it. It sticks with you, and that's the program's intention. And hopefully it'll help decrease the incidents.
Right now, what's your favorite song,
group, or album?
I love gospel music. I love listening to Kirk Franklin. A lot of his music I've been listening to since I was a little kid. It's a lot of up-tempo music, but it's all praising the Lord, so that fits my lifestyle.
Do you do any singing on your own?
No, that was my roommates. They were all into music and stuff. I was the one who would just encourage them to achieve their musical dreams. Kelly Fitzgerald and Jonathan Grimes were probably two of the most musically inclined people I've ever met, and I just tried to help encourage them to pursue their dreams in that aspect of their lives.
Can you give me a couple of your
I love action movies. The Spiderman movies, especially the first one, the Batman movies, especially The Dark Knight, and then I liked the new one that came out, The Avengers. That was one of my favorite movies.
Did you ever read those comic books
Not really. I was more into the cartoons when I was younger. Watching them on TV, they always interested me.
Your favorite athlete is?
Because football is my sport, I like Troy Polamalu. I didn't really know much about him until I started playing safety, but I love the way he plays all over the field. He's a tremendous athlete, and then he's a respectable man as well. He really studies the game, and you don't hear or see him in the news doing anything stupid. So he's also a good role model and I think a good, Christian athlete as well.
If you had one ability you don't
currently possess, what would it be?
I'm in between two right now, but one of them would be to read faster. I think that would help a lot with school, especially here. Then the other would be to run faster.
Your favorite meal is?
Seafood. Any kind of seafood. Shrimp, crabs-I think it's a Thompson thing. We love seafood. We throw it down.
Growing up, I rooted for?
The best class I've taken is?
I like Sociology of Sports with Professor Danielle Currier. It changes your outlook on sports a lot. I feel like sociology classes in general force you to look at life in a different way. You can't just look at one aspect of any situation. You have to look at it in so many different ways, from race to class to gender to sexuality. I enjoyed that class, and I enjoyed our teacher.
The William & Mary defensive
If I could trade places with anyone, it
I don't think I would trade places with anybody.
What's your favorite moment from your
I think winning that CAA Championship. That was one of my favorite moments. I never won a high school championship, so it was extra special for me. It was also the way it played out. Once Delaware lost to Villanova that day, we knew from the get-go that it was ours. You couldn't have told me any way that we were going to lose that game to Richmond. You could see it in everybody's eyes. Then the way we beat them, being our rival as well. And you see the pictures all the time. You see Coach Laycock smiling-that was a good moment for me. Then getting those rings. Those rings are nice.
The best athlete you've competed
I think probably the running back from Towson, Terrance West. I respect him as a running back, and he ran hard. But there were a lot of good athletes, especially on the FBS teams we played.
If I could play any other position, it
Wide receiver. It's where I played growing up. I always enjoyed it. When I was recruited, I was kind of in between. They tell you that you might play both, but I feel like it was always about me playing defense.
Do you play video games?
Not really. When I was younger, I did, but not really anymore.
My favorite spot on campus is?
Can I say the football field? Probably my locker at the Laycock Center. That's my place; I really feel at home there.
Who is the biggest character on the
You already know the answer, B.W. Webb. That's my man and I've played with him since freshman year, but yeah he's an interesting guy.
Brian Thompson will be remembered how?
As a man who did the best he could to the glory of God.
What is one thing you can do better
than anyone else you know?
I'm good at helping people when they're having a problem. I feel like the Lord blessed me with that ability. Talking about the counseling type of issues and being able to know the right words to say. It's not necessarily me; it's more what the Lord puts in my heart to say. But knowing what to say to someone, knowing what tone to use, and knowing how to encourage people is what I'm best at. I love stuff like that, so I feel like the Lord has blessed me with that better than others.
If you are living your dream in 10
years, you'll be?
Still playing football. But beyond football, I plan to be in some way helping to further the Lord's kingdom. Whether it's preaching or missionary trips, I want to be helping others to know more about the Lord.
