WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - William and Mary freshman first baseman Michael Katz was named Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week on Monday.  The Falls Church Va., native garnered the distinction after batting .318 for the week, which included eight RBIs, eight runs scored, seven hits and two home runs.

In the series against Delaware, Katz batted .357 with six hits, five RBIs and five runs scored.  In the first inning of game two against the Blue Hens, the former Bishop O'Connell standout belted his second grand slam of the season.

On Wednesday, April 4, Katz went 2-for-5 with three RBIs and a home run in the 6-0 win at Longwood.  His fifth inning three-run home run against the Lancers put the College ahead, 5-0, as W&M went on to secure the road triumph.  For the year, Katz is batting .295 to go along with 38 hits, 32 runs batted in and a team leading six home runs, which is tied for third in the CAA.

Katz's Rookie of the Week honor brings the Tribe's season total of league weekly accolades to three.  On February 21, junior RHP Brett Koehler was honored as the CAA Co-pitcher of the week, while senior RHP Matt Davenport earned the CAA pitcher of the week distinction on March 19.  Tribe baseball returns to action against Richmond on Tuesday, April 10, with the first pitch from Plumeri Park scheduled for 7 p.m.  Fans can follow the action online at with live audio and stats.
