W&M Women's Golf Finishes Sixth at CAA Championships

The William and Mary women's golf team finished up the 2012 Colonial Athletic Association Championships in sixth place, shooting 311 in Sunday's final round to close out the weekend at 936 (+72) overall.  It was the second-best total score for the Tribe ever at the conference tournament, behind only the 2008 team that took third.  UNC Wilmington won the CAA title with a three-day score of 909 (+45), four strokes ahead of James Madison.  Charlotte Lorentzen of Georgia State was the individual medalist, shooting 217 (+1).

Freshman Kelly Okun (Palm Beach, Fla.) opened the final round with seven straight pars, and finished at 77 (+5) for the day to finish tied for 14th overall at 232 (+16).  Senior Caroline Sweet (Bowie, Md.) tied for 16th at 234 (+18) after her final-round 79, and junior Betsy Birchall (Mountain Brook, Ala.) matched Okun with a 77, shooting 235 for the weekend and finishing 19th.  Senior Kristen Hamel (Chesterfield, Mo.) shot 78 on Sunday, and improved one spot to a tie for 22nd at 237 (+21) overall.
