The William and Mary track and field family continued competition Sunday at the U.S. Olympic Trials, as volunteer assistant Janice Keppler cleared 4.25 meters (13-11.75) to tie for ninth place in the pole vault.  It was her third-straight top-10 finish at the U.S. Championships, after finishing seventh indoors each of the past two years.

Keppler, who has a personal-best of 4.42m (14-6) both indoors and out, cleared the opening height of 4.25m on the first attempt, one of just 14 women out of 27 entries to advance past the first round.  At the second bar of 4.40m (14-5.25), she was close on the first two attempts despite swirling winds.  On the third attempt, she had the height to clear, but just nudged the bar on the way down and it fell off the pegs to end her day.

William and Mary still has two track and field hopefuls yet to compete this week.  Betsy Graney '11 will run the 3,000m steeplechase semifinals tomorrow at the U.S. Trials, and hope to advance to the finals on Friday.  Meanwhile, in Calgary, Brandon Heroux '11 will compete at the Canadian Trials on Wednesday (semis) and Friday (finals) in the javelin.
