WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - In its new previewing series, 'Touting the Tribe,'
TribeAthletics.com gives fans a glance at William and Mary student-athletes to
keep an eye on during the upcoming 2012-13 season. With the Tribe volleyball
opening its season at the Duke Invitational this weekend, junior outside hitter
Julia Swalchick is the next Green and Gold standout to be highlighted.
A native of Melbourne, Fla., Swalchick is coming off a 2011 season that saw her produce career highs in nearly every statistical category. She averaged 2.07 points per set and ranked third on the team in total kills (164) and total points (182). She also rated fourth on the squad in hitting percentage (14.9) and total blocks (30).
During her sophomore campaign, the 6-1 Orlando Volleyball Academy product garnered Penn Invitational All-Tournament honors producing back-to-back games of 15 kills against the host Quakers and Rhode Island. She also established career-highs with four blocks and 13 digs against URI. During the CAA slate, Swalchick turned in an impressive 14-kill .462-hitting percentage effort against UNCW and equaled a career-high with four blocks at Georgia State.
Swalchick and the Tribe travel to Durham, N.C., to take part in the Duke Invitational, Aug. 24-25. The College opens the season with 2011 NCAA Tournament participant Duke on Friday, Aug. 24, at 7 p.m. The video stream of the game will be available for purchase at GoDuke.com, but W&M fans that have signed up for TribeAthletics TV will be able to view the stream at no addition charge. The Tribe closes out the weekend against NCAA Tournament participant and Horizon League Champion Milwaukee on Saturday, Aug. 25, at noon, before meeting MAAC favorite Fairfield at 5 p.m.
