William and Mary senior Leah Zamesnik (Norfolk, Va.) was named to the Colonial Athletic Association's pre-season field hockey team Wednesday, as one of the 11 players picked by the league coaches to watch in 2012.  She is the fourth Tribe player to earn pre-season honors from the CAA, joining Kim Hedley '08 in 2007, Wesley Drew '10 in 2009, and Maria Caro (Martinsville, N.J.) in 2010.

Zamesnik returns for her final season this year, after earning first-team All-CAA accolades last fall.  She led the Tribe in scoring in 2011, with seven goals and an assist, and ranks third among all returning league players with 3.76 shots per match.  In her career, which also includes second-team all-conference honors in 2009, Zamesnik has totaled 14 goals and seven assists.  Four of her goals have been game-winners, a figure that ranks her among W&M's all-time top-16.

The Tribe's sophomore duo of Emma Clifton (Loomberah, NSW) and Jesse Ebner (Sinking Spring, Pa.) were placed on the honorable-mention pre-season team.  Both women earned all-rookie honors a year ago.

William and Mary opens the 2012 campaign this weekend with a pair of matches in the mountains of North Carolina.  First, the Tribe will take on Davidson at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 25; the second match will also be played at Davidson's field, with W&M taking on Appalachian State Sunday at 4 p.m.
