Touting the Tribe: Sophomore Midfielder Emma Clifton

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - In its new previewing series, 'Touting the Tribe,' TribeAthletics.com gives fans a glance at William and Mary student-athletes to keep an eye on during the upcoming 2012-13 season. The Tribe athlete featured today today is sophomore midfielder Emma Clifton of the Green and Gold field hockey team.

Clifton is coming off a freshman season that saw her earn CAA All-Rookie Team accolades. She helped the Green and Gold a 6-1 start last season, the program's best since 2006, including a 4-3 win over No. 20 Northeastern. She ranked second on the team in points (14), goals (4) and assists (6).

In the Tribe's victory over nationally-ranked Northeastern, Clifton scored the equalizer in the 63rd minute to tie game at 3 before assisting on the game-winning goal with 1:03 remaining in the contest. A native of Loomberah, New South Wales in Australia, she also registered a goal and an assist during her rookie campaign against ACC foe Virginia. Clifton's lone game-winner on the year came in the Tribe's 3-1 victory over Monmouth on Sept. 4.

Clifton and the Tribe kickoff the 2012 season with a pair of matches in Davidson, N.C., this weekend. The College faces the host Wildcats at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 25, before meeting Appalachian State on Sunday, Aug. 26, at 4 p.m.
