The William and Mary women's golf team wrapped up a successful season-debut Monday at the Tignanelli Towson Invitational, shooting 314 (+26) in the day's round to finish third overall with a total of 626 (+50). St. John's won the 18-team event with a 36-hole score of 35-over (611), five strokes ahead of Old Dominion. Harrin Lee of the Red Storm and Elizabeth Haycock of ODU tied for the individual medal, shooting 150 (+6) each on the 6,162 yard, par-72 course.
W&M had the third-best team round each day, and had three players shoot 78 (+6) in windy conditions in the final round. Freshman Alessandra Liu (Cynwyd, Pa.) finished seventh overall in the 90-player tournament with her two-day total of 153 (+9), just three strokes back. Classmate Tina Chang (Mineola, N.Y.) paired 78's in her two rounds to tie for 12th overall, and redshirt-junior Katy Hutcherson (Greeneville, Tenn.) cut one stroke between rounds to improve to a tie for 17th overall at 13-over (157). Senior Betsy Birchall (Mountain Brook, Ala.) opened her year with two rounds of 80 and finished 26th overall, and sophomore Kellie Edelblut (New Hope, Pa.) rounded out the team in a tie for 52nd.
William and Mary has two-and-a-half weeks off, and will return to the course on Friday-Sunday Sept. 28-30, playing at the Penn State Nittany Lion Invitational.
