Men's Tennis Travels to Duke Fab Four Invite

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The William and Mary men's tennis team will kick of the 2012 fall season at the Duke Fab Four Invitational. The event, which will be played at the Cary Tennis Park in Cary, N.C., consists of three 16-player singles draws and three eight-team doubles brackets and will run from Friday, Sept. 14, through Sunday, Sept. 16.

Joining the Tribe at the Fab Four event will be players from Duke, North Carolina, Virginia Tech, N.C. State, South Carolina, Kentucky, Alabama, Elon, Radford, Louisville and VCU. The event kicks off with two rounds of doubles on Friday at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m., before one round of singles at 1 p.m. Saturday will consist of the final round of doubles at 9 a.m. followed by two singles rounds at 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. The event closes out on Sunday with the final rounds of singles at 9 a.m.

In doubles action, senior Jamie Whiteford and sophomore Aaron Chaffee will team together in the Blue Doubles Flight. The pair drew the No. 16 nationally ranked Duke team of Henrique Cunha and Raphael Hemmeler in the opening round at 10 a.m. on Friday. Whiteford and Chaffee will meet either the South Carolina duo of Thiago Pinheiro and Kyle Koch or the Virginia Tech team of Mauricio Antun and Aaron Gomez at 11 a.m. in either the semifinals or consolation draw.

The junior pair of Ben Guthrie and John Banks will compete in the Black Doubles Flight and meet the Radford team of Nicholas Sayer and Thomas Dehaen in the opening round at 10 a.m. They will face either the No. 40-ranked VCU squad of Alexis Huegas and Max Wennakowski or the North Carolina duo of William Parker and Brett Clark in the semifinals or consolation draw at 11 a.m.

Junior Ben Hoogland and sophomore Will Juggins are the third Tribe doubles team competing in the event and will be a part of the White Flight. They open play against James Coxe and Stuart Depaolo of North Carolina at 10 a.m., before meeting either Duke's Michael Redlicki and Jason Tahir or the Elon pair of Jordan Kaufman and Brian Kowalski at 11 a.m.

A pair of Tribe players, Guthrie and Chaffee, will compete in the Black Singles Bracket at the Invite. Guthrie opens with No. 19-ranked Chris Mengel of Duke, while Chaffee meets Elon's Brian Kowalski in the first round. Both matches are slated for 1 p.m. start.

Whiteford, who is currently ranked No. 43 nationally in singles, is seeded in the Blue Singles Flight and will open play against Aaron Gomez of Virginia Tech at 1 p.m. on Friday. Banks will face a nationally ranked player in his opening match of the White Singles Flight. The Tribe junior meets No. 111-ranked Fred Saba or Duke at 1 p.m.
