The William and Mary field hockey team will wrap up its four-match homestand this weekend with a pair of matches at Busch Field.  On Friday, the Tribe will host the 11th-ranked Boston University Terriers at 7 p.m., before taking on the Redhawks of Miami University Sunday at noon.

Live Stats

Scouting the Tribe
William and Mary is 5-1 on the year, and coming off of its first loss at the hands of No. 9 Virginia on Tuesday night.  The Tribe outshot the Cavaliers 15-9 for the game, and had several great chances carom off the posts or get saved by a defensive player.  For the year, captain Christine Johnson (Williamsburg, Va.) leads the team with five goals and a pair of assists, while classmate Allison Moran (Wynnewood, Pa.) is close behind with four goals and three assists.  On defense, senior goalkeeper Elizabeth Frey (Virginia Beach, Va.) has a 0.89 goals-against average and is stopping 71.4% of the shots against her.

Scouting the Terriers
Boston University is also 5-1 and coming off their first loss as well, a 2-0 setback to No. 2 Syracuse on Sunday.  Jacinda McLeod is the Terriers' top offensive threat, with four goals, while Ella Gunson has dished out three assists.  On defense, both Jess Maroney and Valentina Cerda Eimbcke have very similar stat lines, with a 1.29 GAA and 1.30 GAA, respectively.

Scouting the Redhawks
Miami is 2-4 on the year with wins in each of its last match-ups, including a 2-1 upset of then-No. 23 Ohio State on Sunday.  Emily Gruesser has four goals on the year so far, while Sarah Mueller is allowing 2.5 goals per game with 51 saves on defense.  The Redhawks will face No. 9 Virginia on Saturday.

The Series
This is the first meeting between W&M and BU since 2001 and 2002, in a series that the Terriers lead 5-3.  The Tribe won the last two match-ups, however, including a 1-0 overtime thriller in Boston in 2002.  Against Miami, the College is 4-1 all-time including a 3-0 shutout in Oxford last fall.  The last meeting in Williamsburg, in 2009, was a 2-1 overtime win for Miami.

News and Notes
- In the first NCAA statistical release, the College ranks among the national top-10 in every offensive category including a national-best 4.40 assists per game.  In fact, other than saves per game and save percentage, the Tribe ranks top-10 in every statistics category.

- The Tribe has been getting off to a fast start so far in 2012, out-shooting opponents 88-12 in the first half and owning a 44-5 advantage in penalty corners.  That offensive edge has translated into a 15-3 goal differential in the first 35 minutes.

- The Tribe's four-match road swing to start the year was the second-longest ever, and it was also the most successful in school history with a 4-0 mark.  The longest road trip to start a season is five, shared by the 2002 team which started 1-4 and the 1999 squad's 3-2 mark.  The Tribe also began with four matches on the road in 1992 (going 3-1), 1983 (2-2), and 1981 (1-1-2).

- W&M's 5-0 start to the year was the best since the Tribe started with five wins in 2006.  The only season-opening win streaks better than five came in 2000, when the Tribe won seven to start the year before going to the NCAA Tournament for the first time; as well as 1978 and 1979.  Both of those years began with nine victories, and the 1978 team also had a tie in the 10th game.

- Christine Johnson was named the CAA co-Player of the Week on Aug. 28, after scoring four goals and a defensive save to lead her team to a 5-1 win over Davidson.  Johnson is the seventh player in school history to score four goals in a single game, and the first since Katie Silverthorne '02 in 2001.  She is the first Tribe player to be named the conference Player of the Week since October of 2007.

-The Tribe had three players earn spots on the pre-season all-conference team, the most ever for a W&M squad.  Leah Zamesnik was one of 11 players selected to the first-team, while sophomores Jesse Ebner and Emma Clifton were both named honorable-mention.

-Seven of W&M's 17 regular season opponents earned a spot in the most recent top-25 Penn Monto/NFHCA national poll.  Northeastern led the way at No. 7, with Old Dominion at No. 8 and Virginia at No. 9 in the top-10.  Boston University (11th) and Wake Forest (13th) are also ranked, as are Drexel (No. 15) and No. 25 Richmond.
