CARY, N.C. - William and Mary men's tennis junior Ben Guthrie highlighted the Green and Gold effort on the second day of the Duke Fab Four Invitational with an upset win over a top-70 nationally-ranked singles player. Along with Guthrie's exploits, the Tribe closed out doubles competition at the event with a perfect 3-0 mark on Saturday.

After dropping his first matches on Saturday, Guthrie turned in an impressive performance with a straight-sets, 6-3, 6-1, win over No. 64-ranked Panva Jha of Kentucky in the Black Flight. It marked the first nationally ranked win of Guthrie's W&M career as he knocked off a player that finished last season as an ITA All-American and a First-Team All-SEC selection for the Wildcats.

A pair of W&M doubles teams closed out the Fab Four Invite with 2-1 records. Guthrie and junior John Banks won their second straight over Kentucky's Juan-Pablo Murra and Ryuji Hirooka, 8-6, to claim the consolation final of the Black Flight. The Tribe duo of junior Ben Hoogland and sophomore Will Juggins won for the second time in three matches, taking third in the White Flight with a 9-7 victory over Joe Mills and Stijn Meulemans of Radford.

Senior Jamie Whiteford and sophomore Aaron Chaffee rounded out the Tribe doubles sweep on Saturday with their first victory of the year. The Green and Gold pair downed Kentucky's Anthony Rossi and Panva Jha, 8-5, in the Blue Flight. While not ranked nationally in doubles during the preseason, both UK players finished last season in national top 45 on doubles teams. Rossi is currently ranked No. 12 nationally in the preseason singles rankings, while Jha, who was an All-American in doubles last season, is ranked No. 64.

W&M returns to action at the UVA Ranked +1 Tournament, Sept. 21-23, in Charlottesville, Va.
