William and Mary freshman Emily Stites (Wyoming, Ohio) was named Runner of the Week on Wednesday by the Colonial Athletic Association, following her outstanding effort at Pre-Nationals last weekend.  This is the first weekly honor of the year for Stites, and the third of the season for the Tribe cross country team.

Stites was the Tribe's top finisher Saturday at Pre-Nats, running 20:26.1 for 19th-place overall.  The freshman's second top-20 performance at a major invitational led the 18th-ranked College to a sixth-place finish overall, and wins over five ranked opponents.  Stites has also turned in a top performance at the Paul Short Invitational (sixth overall, second on the team) two weeks ago, and while unattached to start the year, won the Spider Alumni Open and finished second at the W&M Invitational.  In FloTrack.org's season FloRatings, she is one of just three freshmen with two performances among the top-86 overall (and one of just 21 athletes to do so across all classes).

The Tribe will look to claim its first conference title since 2009 next weekend, as W&M hosts the CAA Championships on Homecoming (Oct. 27).  The women's 6K championship out at Eastern State Hospital will start at 10 a.m., with an awards ceremony at 12 p.m. following the men's race.
