CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - One day after knocking off a nationally-ranked opponent, William and Mary men's tennis junior Ben Guthrie saw his run at the ITA Atlantic Region Championships come to a close. Along with Guthrie's quarterfinal singles appearance, the Tribe also placed a doubles team in the quarterfinals with Guthrie and senior Jamie Whiteford pulling the trick on Sunday. The Tribe was one of four teams in the region to accomplish the feat.

Guthrie won three singles matches to open the region championship, including a straight-sets victory over No. 49 nationally-ranked Justin Shane of Virginia in the round of 16. The Tribe junior suffered a 6-3, 6-0 defeat at the hands of No. 9-seeded Andreas Bjerrehus of Virginia Tech on Monday. Guthrie fell to 6-4 on the year with the quarterfinal loss, but finished the Atlantic Region Championship at 3-1.

The Tribe will close out the fall season when it hosts the Tribe Invitational, Nov. 9-11, at the McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center. Joining W&M at the three-day event will be Old Dominion, Harvard and Notre Dame.
