The William and Mary field hockey team brings its regular season to a close Saturday night, hosting No. 9 Old Dominion on Homecoming.  The Tribe and the Lady Monarchs will face off at 6 p.m. at Busch Field, and before the match, there will be a brief ceremony honoring the W&M seniors.

Live Stats

Scouting the Tribe
William and Mary is 10-7 overall and 3-3 in the CAA, after taking ODU to overtime before losing on Wednesday.  Freshman Pip Saunders (Mittagong, NSW) scored both of the Tribe's goals in that contest, lifting her into a tie with senior captain Christine Johnson (Williamsburg, Va.) for the team lead with matching totals of seven goals and five assists.

Scouting the Lady Monarchs
Old Dominion is 13-5 overall and 6-0 in the league after dropping a 3-1 loss to No. 1 North Carolina on Friday night.  Sarah Breen is the leading scorer with 12 goals and eight assists, but Rosario Villagra is right behind her with 11 goals and eight assists.  In goal, Marla Petriello has 52 saves and a 1.76 GAA.

The Series
Old Dominion leads the all-time series 42-11, including Wednesday's 3-2 overtime win in Norfolk.  The Tribe's last victory in the series came in 2004, a 2-1 win of the then-No. 8 Monarchs in Williamsburg.

The Seniors
Before tonight's match, the Tribe will honor the six members of the senior class for their years of hard work and dedication (fifth-year goalkeeper Elizabeth Frey (Virginia Beach, Va.) was honored last year with her entering class).  Between them, the six players have accounted for 49% of the College's offensive production over the past four years (120 of 243 points), including 44 of 85 goals (52%), 415 of 631 shots (66%), and 11 of 14 defensive saves (79%).

Optima Health Challenge
A year-long series between W&M and ODU, the Optima Health Challenge awards 10 points to the victor of head-to-head match-ups in 12 sports, with 120 total points possible.  To win the Optima Health trophy, a school must amass at least 65 points.  So far, the standings are 20-5 for W&M, with the Tribe earning wins in both men's and women's soccer, while the Monarchs got five points for the field hockey win on Wednesday.  Tonight's match is worth another five points to the victor.

News and Notes
- Four of the six seeds for the CAA Tournament are set, including both quarterfinal match-ups, but the site is still to be determined.  James Madison will be the No. 3-seed, and will take on No. 6 Hofstra for the right to face whomever the No. 2-seed will be (either Drexel or Northeastern).  On the other side of the bracket, No.-4 William and Mary will play against No.-5 Delaware, with the winner of that match advancing to face the top seed.  Drexel currently holds the tiebreaker over Northeastern after beating the Huskies 1-0, but both teams still have one conference match left on Sunday.

- Even though it ultimately was a 3-2 loss, W&M's performance against ODU on Wednesday was notable for a number of reasons.  It was the first time that the Lady Monarchs had been taken to overtime all year, and the first time that ODU has played in overtime against a CAA opponent since the 2010 CAA Championship game.  The two goals were also the most scored against ODU by a conference school since Drexel scored three on Oct. 8, 2010.

- Pip Saunders is quickly approaching rarified air for a Tribe freshman.  She ranks third all-time among W&M rookies with five assists, sixth in total points (19), and seventh in goals scored with seven.  One more assist will tie her with teammate and fellow countryman Emma Clifton for second all-time in that category, while another goal would match the freshman total put up by Ann Ekberg '02 in 1999.

- Pip Saunders was named the CAA Rookie of the Week on Oct. 2, after scoring a goal and an assist over the weekend.  She helped on the first of Emma Clifton's two goals against Delaware on Friday night, and then scored the then-tying goal against Richmond on Sunday.

- The Tribe swept the CAA weekly awards on Sept. 18, with senior captain Maria Caro sharing Player of the Week honors and redshirt-freshman Cate Johnson being named Rookie of the Week.  Caro scored two game-winning goals, against Miami and then-No. 11 Boston University, while Johnson was credited with the win in both matches and stopped 92.9% of the shots made against her.

- Christine Johnson was named the CAA co-Player of the Week on Aug. 28, after scoring four goals and a defensive save to lead her team to a 5-1 win over Davidson.  Johnson is the seventh player in school history to score four goals in a single game, and the first since Katie Silverthorne '02 in 2001.  She is the first Tribe player to be named the conference Player of the Week since October of 2007.
