Tribe Men's Golf Opens 15th at Kiawah Island

The William and Mary men's golf team opened play at the Wendy's Kiawah Classic Sunday morning, and stands just seven strokes out of the top five after a first-round 302 (+18).  The Tribe is tied for 15th overall in the 26-team event, while South Carolina leads after carding a 2-under 282.  Utah Valley's Mason Casper and Caleb Sturgeon (for the Gamecocks) are sharing the individual lead at 68 (3-under).

As he has all season long, senior Jeremy Wells (Hopewell, Va.) had the day's best round for W&M and is tied for 18th overall at 72 (+1).  Junior Michael Bekken (Blacksburg, Va.) is tied for 46th after his round of 75, and sophomore Alex Hicks (Cape May Court House, N.J.) is two strokes further back in a tie for 70th.  Junior Tanner Taddeo (Hendersonville, Tenn.) shot 78 (+7) to end the day tied for 83rd, and classmate Patrick Leisure (Charlottesville, Va.) rounded out the team effort tied for 127th.

The Wendy's Kiawah Classic continues with one round each on Monday and Tuesday.
