The William and Mary volleyball team looks to continue building momentum towards the post-season on Friday night, as the Tribe takes on Northeastern at Kaplan Arena at 7 p.m. Before the match, W&M will take a moment to honor and thank seniors Molly Krull (Raleigh, N.C.) and Shaylin O'Connell (Leesburg, Va.) as they prepare to take the court for the last time at home.

Scouting the Tribe
William and Mary is 13-10 overall and 5-4 in the CAA, currently in fourth place in the conference standings after downing James Madison (3-2) and George Mason (3-0) on Homecoming Weekend. Thanks to Shaylin O'Connell's offensive fireworks over the weekend, the Tribe now has five players averaging better than 2.0 kills per set, and seven over 2.0 points per set. Leading the way in both categories is redshirt-sophomore Paulette Grand Pre (Laguna Beach, Va.), who has 2.46 kills and 2.81 points per set. Molly Krull is responsible for nearly half of the Tribe's offense, averaging 6.17 assists per set, and the captain also leads the team with 0.25 aces per set. On defense, O'Connell has 81 blocks in 82 sets, and redshirt-sophomore Devin Andrews-Lyssy (Santa Rosa, Calif.) is picking up 3.06 digs per set in the backcourt.
Scouting the Huskies
Northeastern is second in the CAA standings at 18-5 overall and 7-2 in conference play. The Huskies are only 2-4 away from Boston, however, including losses to Delaware and Towson in their last road trip. On offense, Northeastern is beign led by Kelly Bacon with 3.54 kills per set, while on defense, Natalia Skiba is averaging 5.47 digs per set.
The Series
W&M is 5-11 all-time against Northeastern, and looking to snap a four-game losing streak to the Huskies. Earlier this season in Boston, Northeastern won 3-1.
News and Notes
- Shaylin O'Connell was named the CAA Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 29, after averagin 1.25 blocks per set in the Tribe's two wins over Homecoming Weekend. She scored five blocks against both George Mason and James Madison, and also had a career-high 20 kills against the Dukes while hitting .400.
- Tribe head coach Melissa Aldrich Shelton '91 won the 300th match of her career on Sept. 22, leading the College to a 3-0 victory at UNCW. Of Shelton's 302 total wins, 67 have come at the helm of her alma mater in 4+ seasons.
- Freshman Dessi Koleva averaged more than three kills per set against Hofstra and Northeastern to claim CAA Rookie of the Week honors for the third time in four weeks. She was also honored as the Division I Player of the Week by the ECAC, a regional organization of more than 300 universities across all three NCAA Divisions.
- Freshman Carolyn Albright was also selected as the CAA Rookie of the Week, back on Sept. 3, starting a string of three straight weeks and four of five in which the league's best newcomer has worn the Green and Gold.
- With the in-season tournament schedule now complete, the College counted a total of eight all-tournament selections this season. Senior Shaylin O'Connell was named to three of the four all-tournament teams, including both of W&M's home events as well as the Duke Invitational. Paulette Grand Pre and Manon Murray each had two nods, with Grand Pre earning honors at the Tribe Invitational and the UNH Invitational, while Murray was one of the six-best players at both UNH and the Colonial Challenge. Freshman Dessi Koleva was only named to one all-tournament team, the Colonial Challenge, but her terrific play lifted her to the MVP award.
- Each of the Tribe's first three victories came by a 3-1 count, the first time that each of the first three wins have seen the same score since 2000. That season, W&M's first four wins all came by a 3-0 count.
