The William & Mary Celebration of Women’s Athletics (CWA) was created in 2010 to highlight the history of our women’s athletics programs. The CWA Committee is currently accepting nominations for the "One Tribe Award" and the "Tribe Champion for LIFE Award". All nominations are due by June 30th for consideration for the following year's award. Exceptions are at discretion of the committee.


This award is given to an alumna of the College for whom competitive athletics in college was an influential factor in achieving a distinguished career, being a leader in an impactful philanthropic endeavor, or achieving a personal triumph with a lasting impression on others. The nominee must demonstrate leadership, integrity, fortitude and excellence in her personal, professional or philanthropic accomplishments. The nominee must have been a William & Mary varsity letter-winner. The nominee must have graduated from the College of William & Mary at least 15 years prior to the Celebration of Women’s Athletics event.

Kathy Carter '91, Soccer

President of Soccer United Marketing,

Oversees the commercial and marketing aspects of the business for Major League Soccer's commercial subsidiary.

2012 Tribe Champion for Life Recipient

Jo Ousterhout, ’76, Field Hockey

CEO and Co-Founder at Metta Journeys,

a pioneering philanthropic travel company

 2011 Tribe Champion for Life Recipient

Camilla Buchanan ’66

Field Hockey, Lacrosse, Basketball

Physician, Adjunct Professor, Co-Founder of the Maasai American

 Organization created to improve tribal health in Kenya


This award honors a student-athlete who has significantly contributed to her local community or non-profit organizations and inspired others. The nominee must show a high level of dedication to help others grow, develop and achieve goals. The nominee must be a William & Mary Young Guarde alumna. (’04 -’14) The nominee must be a varsity letter-winner.

Brittany Ann Lane '11, Soccer

Humanitarian, community volunteer, and founder of a sports-based youth education development program that used soccer as a tool teach values and confidence to children in developing countries

 2012 One Tribe Recipient

Lauren Kaplan McKetta ‘05, Basketball

School psychologist, community volunteer, organizer and fundraiser for events that benefit bone marrow transplant research at the VCU Massey Cancer Center.

The date for the 2015 event will be on Saturday, February 7 in the Sadler Center. If you have
