WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - William and Mary women's soccer senior midfielder Mallory Schaffer was selected in the second round (15th overall pick) by the Seattle Reign FC of the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) on Thursday evening.  The two-time Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Year and two-time All-America selection becomes the seventh player from the College to be drafted into the professional ranks.  Furthermore, she is now the highest drafted player to ever don the Green and Gold.

"We are delighted and proud of Mallory being selected by Seattle," stated head coach John Daly.  "Throughout the process teams were inquiring about Mallory, so it was a thrill to see her taken.  I strongly believe she has the attributes to play professionally and we wish her the best of luck."

The Allison Park, Pa., native capped an impressive 2012 campaign being named the Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Year, for the second consecutive season, while earning All-CAA and All-Region First Team distinctions.  The 2012 Senior Class Award Finalist also earned National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) and Senior Class Second-Team All-America accolades.  This season, she ranked third in the CAA in points (23) and goals (10).

Off the pitch, Schaffer excelled in the classroom, as evident after she was named the CAA Women's Soccer Scholar Athlete of the Year.  Additionally, she earned first-team NSCAA Scholar All-America honors.

Schaffer closed an outstanding career with 41 career goals and 96 career points, which rank sixth and seventh, respectively, all-time in school history.
