WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The William and Mary men's tennis team fell to No. 48 South Carolina on Friday evening at the McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center. The Green and Gold dropped to 4-4 on the season in falling to its fourth nationally-ranked foe, while South Carolina downed its second straight CAA foe in improving to 9-3.

The Gamecocks took the doubles point with wins at the top two positions. At No. 2, the USC duo of Kyle Koch and Harry Menzies upended the Tribe pair of junior John Banks and freshman Scott Huang, 8-1. Banks and Huang, who are the reigning CAA Doubles Team of the Week, saw their four-match winning streak come to a close. Chip Cox and Tsvetan Mihov clinched the initial point of the match with an 8-3 win over senior Anton Andersson and sophomore Aaron Chaffee at the top post. The Tribe duo of senior Adrian Vodislav and Ben Hoogland was tied at four-all with the South Carolina team of Ben Barnette and Thiago Pinheiro at the No. 3 slot before the match was abandoned with the doubles point decided.

South Carolina recorded wins at the bottom three singles posts to clinch the match, before closing out the 7-0 triumph with victories at the top three slots. Harry Menzies increased the USC lead to 2-0 with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Huang at No. 6. Kyle Koch tallied a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Banks at No. 5, before Thiago Pinheiro clinched the Gamecock team victory with a 6-1, 6-4 triumph over Hoogland at the No. 4 spot.

W&M returns to action when it hosts a Sunday doubleheader on Feb. 24 at the McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center. The Tribe hosts Big Ten foe Penn State at 10 a.m., before opening up CAA play against George Mason at 4 p.m. Live stats for both matches will be available at TribeAthletics.com.
