Tribe Falls to No. 34 Columbia at Blue Gray Classic

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The William and Mary men's tennis team continued action at the 65th annual Blue Gray National Tennis Classic, falling to No. 34-ranked Columbia, 4-0, on Saturday afternoon. W&M fell to 6-12 on the season, while the Lions improved to 7-4.

Columbia took the doubles point with wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions. Winston Lin and Cyril Bucher narrowly downed juniors John Banks and Ben Guthrie, 8-6, at the No. 2 position, while Bert Vancura and Eric Rubin defeated the Tribe pair of senior Adrian Vodislav and junior Ben Hoogland, 8-3, at No. 3.

In singles, Max Schnur jumped out to a 3-0 lead over Vodislav at the No. 4 post, before the Tribe senior was forced to retire, pushing the Columbia lead to 2-0. Lin and Dargos Ignat tallied wins at the top two singles positions to cement the Lion victory. Lin, who is ranked No. 34 nationally, downed W&M sophomore Aaron Chaffee, 6-3, 6-0, at No. 1, while Ignat tallied a 6-1, 6-0 triumph over senior Anton Andersson at the second slot.

The Tribe will close out play at the Blue Gray Classic against Troy on Sunday, March 17, at 9:30 a.m. ET. Live stats will be available at BlueGrayTennis.com.
