WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – William and Mary freshman catcher Ryan Hissey was named the Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week on the Monday afternoon. Hissey, who has now earned the distinction on two occasions this season, is the third member of the Green and Gold to earn weekly honors from the CAA in 2013. Earlier this season, pitchers John Farrell (2/19) and Jason Inghram (3/25) earned the pitcher of the week accolade.
Hissey capped an impressive week on the diamond batting .333, which included seven RBIs and three runs scored. The West Chester, Pa., native drove in the winning run against High Point on Saturday with a walk-off single to center field which lifted W&M to a 5-4 win. In the series finale against the Panthers, Hissey collected a hit and two RBIs in the 9-5 triumph as the Tribe improved its record to 20-9 overall. Earlier in the week, he went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored in the Tribe’s 10-4 win at East Carolina.
Tribe baseball returns to action at Richmond on Tuesday, April 2. The first pitch at Pitt Field is scheduled for 3 p.m. and fans can follow the action online at TribeAthletics.com with live stats.
