WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (April 5, 2013)—Former William and Mary standout strong safety Brian Thompson was recently honored as a recipient of the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) annual All-American Strength and Conditioning Athlete of the Year award.

The NSCA All-American Athlete of the Year program is in its 34th year and recognizes student-athletes’ dedication to strength training and conditioning. Thompson was selected for the honor by William and Mary speed, strength and conditioning coach John Sauer, CSCS,*D.

Brian Thompson has overcome a number of injuries in his career to develop into a two-time all-conference performer,” Sauer said. “Brian is an incredibly disciplined and focused individual. Because of these traits he has overcome a great deal. He has always given 100 percent in our strength and conditioning program, as well as on the field. It has been a pleasure working with this young man the last five years.”

A two-time second-team all-conference selection, Thompson was a three-year starter for the Tribe and finished his career with 225 tackles, 14.0 tackles for a loss, five interceptions and 16 PBUs. En route to earning all-league distinction as a senior, he totaled 68 tackles and two interceptions.

Former Tribe football standouts who have earned the NSCA honor and are currently playing in the NFL include Derek Cox (’09) of the San Diego Chargers, Jonathan Grimes (’12) of the Jacksonville Jaguars, Sean Lissemore (’10) of the Dallas Cowboys and Adrian Tracy (’10) of the New York Giants.
