WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The William and Mary men’s tennis team garnered the No. 2 seed and will receive a bye into the semifinals at the 2013 Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Men’s Tennis Championship, the league office announced on Monday. The CAA Championship is slated for April 19-21 at the Millie West Tennis Facility in Williamsburg.
The Tribe will await the winner of the first CAA quarterfinal between No. 3 James Madison and No. 6 Hofstra in the semifinals, which is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 20. UNCW, which is ranked No. 55 in the country, is the top seed in the CAA Championship followed by the Tribe, James Madison, No. 4 Drexel, No. 5 Delaware and No. 6 Hofstra.
The Green and Gold enters the CAA Championship having won five of its final seven regular season matches to finish the year at 11-14 overall and 3-1 in league play. After winning its fourth straight match against Richmond, 6-1, on April 10, the Tribe closed out the regular season with a tough 4-3 setback to Old Dominion at the Millie West Tennis Facility on Saturday.
W&M will host the CAA Men's Tennis Championship for the fifth time and the first since 2004. JMU and Hofstra will meet in the first quarterfinal at noon on Friday, April 19, with No. 4 Drexel and No. 5 Delaware to follow at 3 p.m. in the other men’s quarterfinal. Both men’s tennis semifinals are slated for 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 20, before the championship match at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 21.
