Gabrielle Pe, an incoming freshman for the William and Mary Volleyball Program, was recently honored with First Team Defensive Dandy recognition by PrepVolleyball.com, marking her as one of the best scholastic defensive players in the nation.

The publication recognized 12 top all-around high school athletes who promise to excel in defensive play at the collegiate level.  To qualify, players must be considered among the top 10 defenders in their state, in addition to general athletic achievement.  Pe (pronounced Pey) was nominated through Ocean Lakes High School (VA), where she played as a setter.

Pe will be coming to William and Mary from Virginia Beach, where she plays both varsity and club volleyball.  This past season, Pe recorded over 600 assists as setter for her varsity team and played libero in club.  She was named All-Tidewater Player of the Year and Second Team All-State in 2012.  While diminutive in stature (5’ 2”), Pe is known for her explosive responsiveness and stoic focus, contributing to her marked versatility in defensive play.

Soon to be reprising her role as libero for the Tribe, Pe promises to be a strong addition to the William and Mary backcourt.
