In the fifth-place match of the Mary Catherine Murano Flight, Casselbury rallied for a come-from-behind victory. Dartmouth’s Julienne Keong Si Ying took the opening set in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (4), before the Green and Gold sophomore evened things up with a 6-4 second-set triumph. In the third-set super tiebreaker, Casselbury outlasted Keong, 10-7, to record her fourth singles win of the fall.
In the finals of the Lauren Nikolaus Flight, senior Maria Belaya locked horns with Virginia’s Danielle Collins in a match-up of nationally-ranked players. The No. 74-ranked Cavalier player won the contest, 6-4, 6-3, over Belaya, who is ranked No. 99 nationally.
The Tribe returns to action when it sends seniors Maria Belaya and Jeltje Loomans to compete in the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships in Pacific Palisades, Calif. Belaya and Loomans, who are ranked No. 7 nationally and a perfect 6-0 during the fall, will compete in the 32-team main doubles draw, Oct. 3-6. The All-American Championships are the first of three individual national championship events in collegiate tennis. The Green and Gold will also send players to compete in the June Stewart Invitational hosted by Vanderbilt the following weekend, Oct. 11-13.
