A fixture in Tribe Athletics as both a successful coach and administrator, West was a highly successful fund raiser, including coordinating W&M’s Indoor Tennis Center project, which brought the McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center to Campus. After retiring as an Associate Athletics Director at W&M, she has served as the Tribe’s Director of Special Events. West is also the curator, and 1998 inductee, of the ITA Women’s Tennis Hall of Fame at the Center. In 2010, the Tribe's outdoor tennis facility was named in her honor as the Millie West Tennis Facility.
Below is an excerpt and link to a feature on the W&M Web site by Kelley Freund of the W&M Alumni Association:
If you ever meet Millie West, you will know immediately she loves William & Mary. What you might not realize is that she did not actually go to school here. But with a half century of service to the university as coach, administrator and fundraiser, West is very much a member of the Tribe, having created a lasting impact on the athletics department. West was deemed an honorary alumna in 1991 and next week, she will reside as grand marshal for Homecoming 2013.
