Ben Hoogland Advances to Singles Final at UNC Intercollegiate

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Senior Ben Hoogland highlighted the William and Mary men’s tennis team’s effort on the second day of the Jim Russell Memorial Intercollegiate on Saturday. Hoogland won a pair of matches to advance to the championship match of his singles flight.

Hoogland posted a 6-3, 6-4 victory over North Carolina’s Maik Ulrich in the quarterfinals. He followed it up with a straight-set, 6-3, 6-4 victory over another North Carolina counterpart in Stuart DePaolo. Hoogland posted his third and fourth victory of the fall on Saturday.

Senior John Banks won his quarterfinal match-up in three sets, downing Blaine Boyden, 6-1, 4-6, 10-6, for his fifth win of the season. In the semifinals, Banks fell to North Carolina’s Oystein Steiro.

Hoogland was schedule to face Sterio in the championship match of the singles flight on Sunday. The Tribe doubles team of senior Ben Guthrie and freshman Addison Appleby was scheduled to face North Carolina’s Connor Daly and Chad Hoskins in the championship match of the doubles flight at the event on Sunday.
