Funiciello Wins Parallel Bars Title at West Point Open

WEST POINT, N.Y. (Jan. 18, 2014) – The William and Mary men’s gymnastics team posted a number of impressive performances during the individual event finals at the West Point Open on Saturday evening.

Senior Landon Funiciello highlighted the Tribe’s efforts by winning the parallel bars title with a 14.85. W&M also garnered runner-up distinction in four events, as sophomore Neal Courter placed second on floor (14.45) and vault (15.0), while junior Jason Wang (13.85) and senior Sam Patterson (14.55) also accomplished the feat on pommel horse and parallel bars, respectively.

In addition to claiming the parallel bars title, Funiciello placed fifth on floor with a 14.1. Courter also added a fourth-place effort on high bar (14.05) to go with his pair of second-place medals.

W&M was also well represented by senior Daniel Potemski, who placed fourth on vault (14.4), and sophomore Keaton Ackerman, who placed sixth on pommel horse (13.05).

The Tribe will return to action next Saturday when it competes at the Navy Open.
