William and Mary sophomore Meghan McGovern (North Wales, Pa.) won her first-ever 1,500m race on Saturday at the Tribe Invitational, and with it her first Colonial Athletic Association Track Athlete of the Week award.

Racing against athletes from several other Virginia schools, including Division I foes Richmond and George Mason, McGovern timed 4:32.87 to lead a Tribe sweep of the top three spots in the 1,500m.  It was the first-ever attempt at the event for McGovern, who currently ranks 14th in the East Region and 43rd nationally with her time.  Her speed shown by such an impressive finish will be put to great use as the season wears on and McGovern moves up to the 5,000m, where she was the CAA Champion and an NCAA qualifier last spring.

McGovern and her teammates are back in action this weekend at the Fred Hardy Invitational.  The two-day meet will be hosted by the University of Richmond on Friday and Saturday.
