Scouting the Tribe
William and Mary (18-9, 2-0 CAA) enters the game looking to bounce back after dropping back-to-back games during the mid-week portion of the schedule. It was only the second time this season the Tribe had lost back-to-back games. Junior Nick Thompson is batting .436 with eight home runs and 23 RBIs. Classmate Michael Katz leads the country in home runs with 13, and RBIs with 54. Freshman Tim Hoehn is having a strong inaugural season, batting .478 with a team-high 12 doubles, three triples, a home run, and 20 RBIs. On the mound, junior Jason Inghram has been the anchor of the Green and Gold’s staff, posting a 2.29 ERA, 5-0 record in seven starts.
Scouting the Seahawks
UNCW, which was selected to win the CAA in a preseason poll of league coaches, enters the weekend with a 13-14 record and a 1-2 CAA mark. The Seahawks have won back-to-back regular season titles, and have gone to the NCAA Tournament in each of the past two seasons. The Seahawks are batting a combined .276 entering the weekend. They are led by Corey Dick, who is hitting .343 with two doubles, three homers, and 24 RBIs. Dick leads the team in home runs and RBI. Luke Dunlap is second on the team in average (.333). He has added seven doubles and 10 RBIs. On the mound, UNCW has a staff ERA of 4.63. Nick Monroe anchors the weekend rotation with a 3.95 ERA. He has posted a 1-1 record with 32 innings pitched, 14 strikeouts, and opposing hitters are hitting .250 against him. The Seahawks also welcome back 2013 CAA Pitcher of they Year Mat Batts. Out of the bullpen, Kelly Seacrest has made 12 appearances, posting a 1.33 ERA with 20.1 innings pitched, and 22 strikeouts.
William and Mary and UNCW are meeting for the 91st-93rd time in series history this weekend at Plumeri Park. The Seahawks lead the all-time series 68-22. Last season, UNCW took two of three games at Brooks Field in Wilmington, N.C. The Seahawks won the opener 7-2, before the Tribe picked up a 5-1 victory on Saturday. UNCW rebounded in won the finale 11-4 on Sunday. Current Tribe seniors Ryan Lindemuth .364 (4-for-11) and Willie Shaw .300 (3-for-10) led the Green and Gold over the weekend.
