The William and Mary men's track and field team heads to Princeton this weekend, competing at the 138th IC4A Outdoor Championships.  The oldest outdoor track meet in the country, the IC4As include athletes from as far west at the Mississippi and as far south as North Carolina.  W&M will also have one athlete competing in Raleigh, at the Wolfpack Last Chance meet.  This is the final weekend allowed for qualifying to the NCAA Preliminary rounds.

The Tribe will have athletes competing all three days at the IC4A Championships.  Friday night is distance night, with the 3,000m steeplechase, 5,000m run, and 10,000m run all taking place.  CAA Champion Ryan Gousse (Apopka, Fla.) will race in the steeplechase, looking to go sub-9 minutes for the first time and earn an NCAA bid.  A sophomore, Gousse ran 9:04 earlier this year to win the Colonial Relays.  Senior Rad Gunzenhauser (Pittsburgh, Pa.) is looking for his second IC4A title and second NCAA bid in the 5,000m.  He ran 14:21 earlier this season at Princeton, and was runner-up in the 10,000m at the CAA Championships.  Rounding out the night will be freshman Trevor Sleight (Asheville, N.C.), in the 10,000m.  Sleight ran 30:40 in his first-ever 10,000m race at the Mt. SAC Relays, and was third in the event at the CAA Championships.  He'll need to be on freshman-record pace to qualify for the NCAA Semifinals.

Saturday, events include the preliminaries of the 1,500m run, and the finals of the pole vault.  In the former, redshirt-freshman David Barney (Lynchburg, Va.) qualified for the 1,500m after running a lifetime-best 3:50.50 last week at the UVA Challenge.  It was an improvement of nearly eight seconds over his previous best, set the week earlier when Barney was runner-up at the CAA Championships.  If he advances, the finals will be Sunday at 12:30 p.m.  In the pole vault, sophomore Derek O'Connell (Virginia Beach, Va.) is looking for another school-record height for momentum heading into the NCAA Championships.  He's all-but qualified already at 5.10m (16-8.75), which broke W&M's 42-year old record in the event, and was fifth indoors in the IC4A at 5.05m (16-6.75).

Sunday, the weekend wraps up with sophomore Taylor Frenia (Virginia Beach, Va.) competing in the shot put.  Frenia was 10th at the IC4A Indoor Championships, and two weeks ago won both the shot put and discus at the CAA Championships.  He has a best put of more than 57 feet from the indoor season, and will need another of 57-3 or better to earn his first trip to the NCAA semifinals.  Sophomore Jacob Sears (Cary, N.C.) will also be running this weekend, in the 3,000m steeplechase down at N.C. State on Friday night.  Sears was the runner-up at the CAA Championships in 9:23, and improved his best to 9:21 last week at UVA.
