WILLIASMBURG, Va. – William and Mary baseball junior Nick Thompson was selected in the eighth round with the 255 pick by the Saint Louis Cardinals in the 2014 Major League Baseball Draft. Thompson was the first player out of the Colonial Athletic Association drafted.
The Chesapeake, Virginia native made his presences felt in just one season with the Tribe. Thompson finished the season with a .368 batting average; he had 85 hits, 14 doubles, 11 home runs, and 37 RBIs. He recorded a .571 slugging percentage and a .479 on-base percentage.
Thompson was a First-Team All-CAA selection following the regular season. He previously graduated from East Carolina and is currently in grad school at William and Mary.
He becomes the 30th overall, and the fourth player in the last three years to be selected in the draft. Thompson becomes the seventh highest player drafted in W&M baseball history.
