Tribe Women’s Golf Adds Three in Class of 2016

William and Mary Director of Golf Jay Albaugh announced the addition of three athletes to the Tribe women’s golf team today, with three top junior players from around the nation traveling to Williamsburg to begin school and play this fall.  The three will join the Tribe’s five returning veterans, who earned several impressive finishes in 2011-12 and finished sixth in the Colonial Athletic Association.

Following is brief look at each signee:

Tina Chang
Mineola, N.Y./St. Anthony’s


Prep: Won the New York State championship as a senior, shooting 79 on a rainy day to win by three strokes ... Named the Player of the Year by the New York Catholic School’s Association ... Also won the Met PGA Junior Championship in 2012 ... Qualified for the Trusted Choice Big I Classic and the PGA Junior Championships as a senior ... Member of the National Honor Society ... Also part of St. Anthony’s Model United Nations team ... Was a competitive figure skater for seven years, reaching the senior level in 2006.

Personal: Daughter of Christine and Lawrence Chang ... Mother played basketball in college ... A talented musician, enjoys playing the violin and the piano ... Also enjoys reading, watching movies, and traveling ... Undecided as to her collegiate major.

Brooke LaRue
Topeka, Kan./Hayden

Prep:
Won the Kansas 4A State Championship in 2009 and again as a senior in 2011 ... Runner-up her other two years of high school, in 2008 and 2010 ... Helped lead Hayden to the state title in 2008 and 2009 ... Won her region each of the last two years ... Bookended her high school career with Centennial League titles as a freshman and as a senior ... Selected to the Topeka Capitol Journal All-City team all four years ... Named the Midwest Junior Tour Player of the Year in 2009 and again in 2011 ... Best round was a 68 (-4) ... Won the Kansas State High School Athletic Association’s Citizenship Award in 2012 ... Named the Shawnee County Sports Council Fall Female Athlete of the Year in 2011 ... President of the Hayden Student Body as a senior ... Member of the Model United Nations and the National Honor Society.

Personal: Daughter of Margaret and Tighe LaRue ... Enjoys reading, looking through fashion magazines, and hanging out with friends ... Undecided as to her collegiate major.

Alessandra Liu
Cynwyd, Pa./Lower Merion

Prep:
Lower Merion’s top All-Around Female Athlete in 2011-12 ... Won two events on the junior tours ... Winner of the Commonwealth National Junior Club Championship in 2010, shooting 71 for the victory ... Won the IJGT Architects Tournament in 2011 after rounds of 77-76 ... Runner-up in the Pennsylvania State Junior Girls Championship in 2010 ... Fourth in that same event in 2009 ... Qualified for match play in the championship flight of the 2010 Pennsylvania State Women’s Amateur ... Had two fifth-place showings on the AJGA tour in 2011 ... Lower Merion’s Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2011-12 ... Was selected to the AJGA’s Scholastic Junior All-America team in 2010 ... Also carried a talented stick on the ice for Lower Merion’s ice hockey team, playing both offense and defense ... Team MVP in 2012 and Offensive MVP in 2010.

Personal: Daughter of Geraldine and Grant Liu ... Enjoys watching movies ... Plans to major in either biology or kinesiology while pursuing a pre-med track at the College.
