Tribe 20 Questions with Kristen Hamel

Q: Why did you choose the Tribe?
I chose the Tribe for the competitive golf and the strong academics of William and Mary. I wanted a challenge on the course and in the classroom. The beautiful courses we play in Williamsburg are great as well.

Q: Describe a moment when you felt the most Tribe pride...
The moment when I felt the most Tribe pride was during the conference tournament this spring 2011 season. The other players on the team and I were very close this season, and I could really feel the strong team bond as we were competing for the championship. Everyone was pulling for each other, it was really an experience of great team unity.

Q: Take us through your pre-game mental preparation routine:
My pre-shot mental routine is all about getting myself focused to hit the shot. I envision the shot I want to hit, take a practice swing like how I want to stroke the ball, envision the shot again, and step up and execute.

Q: Do you belong to any other clubs, groups, or organizations?
Nope

Q: What are some community activities you or your team have done?
Last year my team volunteered at Campus Kitchens. We prepared meals for those who needed it most in Williamsburg, or played with children for an afternoon. It was a great experience for the team, and a great way to help out our community.

Q: What is your intended or declared major and why?
I am majoring in Finance and Economics. I chose these majors because I love the business world and believe these majors will help me succeed in my future career.

Q: Describe your dream job:
My dream job is working with children. Children have so much joy, energy, and love it would be so great to be able to play with them every day.

Q: If you could play another sport at W&M what would it be and why?
If I could play another sport at W&M it would be soccer. I was absolutely awful at it as a kid, but I loved running down the field and being able to play as a team.

Q: Favorite team tradition/activity and why?
Playing the around the world putting game. Its a great way to practice putting with the team, its a very fun game.

Q: Which teammate will have the most interesting job in 10 years and why?
Caroline Sweet will definitely have the most interesting job in 10 years. She is going to be ruler of the world.

Q: What animal would best describe you and why?
A dog because I am so lovable.

Q: What is your favorite quote or phrase?
We are what we think. All that we are arises with our thoughts. With our thoughts, we make the world. - Buddha

Q: What is your favorite type of food (i.e. Chinese, Mexican, etc.)?
Fruits

Q: Favorite place you have visited or traveled to and why?
My favorite place I have visited is Hong Kong. It is such a different and unique culture, and the island is so beautiful. Going to Ireland as a golf team was awesome as well.

Q: If you could sit down for lunch with anyone in the world who would it be and why?
J.K. Rowling and ask her how to get my letter to Hogwarts.

Greys Anatomy

Q: How will you change the world (or even just one person’s world)?
Through happiness and love

Q: Tell us something about yourself that most people don’t know...
Yoga is my best pain-reliever

Scary movies

Q: What is an obstacle you had to overcome in your life?
2 foot putts. The yips had ruined my confidence and it has taken a lot to get it back.
