WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (May 2, 2012) - William and Mary standout linebacker Jake Trantin has been invited to the Cincinnati Bengals rookie mini camp.

One of the Tribe's top defensive players throughout the past few seasons, Trantin finished his career with 250 tackles, 21.0 tackles for a loss, 4.5 sacks and four interceptions - one of which he returned for a touchdown.

The Odenton, Va., native earned second-team all-conference honors as a sophomore after leading the Tribe with 90 tackles, while he posted 84 stops as a senior last fall.

Some of Trantin's best performances came against FBS opponents, as he totaled 21 tackles, a sack, two tackles for a loss, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery in W&M's games at Virginia in 2009 and 2011.

Trantin becomes the fourth Tribe player from the class of 2012 who will compete for a NFL roster spot, as running back Jonathan Grimes (Houston Texans), tight end Alex Gottlieb (Detroit Lions) and defensive end Marcus Hyde (Washington Redskins) all agreed to free agent deals last weekend.

The current quartet of graduating Tribe players will look to join a group of five other former W&M standouts who were on NFL rosters last season: David Caldwell (Colts), Derek Cox (Jaguars), Mike Leach (Cardinals), Sean Lissemore (Cowboys), and Adrian Tracy (Giants).
