RICHMOND, Va. (Sept. 3, 2012) - After an outstanding performance at Maryland, William and Mary senior strong safety Brian Thompson has been selected as the Colonial Athletic Association Defensive Player of the Week.
The preseason all-conference selection was outstanding against the Terps and totaled seven tackles with an interception and a pass breakup. He returned the pick 32 yards to Maryland's 9-yard line, which helped set up a field goal.
Thompson was instrumental in W&M's success defensively, as the College held Maryland to just 236 total yards. Additionally, the Tribe forced four turnovers and shutdown the Terps rushing attack, allowing just 2.8 yards per carry.
A second-team all-league selection last season, Thompson garnered preseason All-America accolades from Phil Steele and the College Sports Journal. He serves as a co-captain with senior linebacker Jabrel Mines.
