Tribe Earns Dual Meet Victory at Brockport

BROCKPORT, N.Y. (March 9, 2012) - The William and Mary men's gymnastics team defeated Brockport, 324.1 - 286.6, in a dual meet on Friday evening in Brockport, N.Y.

W&M opened the meet on floor and nearly equaled its best score of the season in the event with a 55.3. Sophomore Daniel Potemski led the Tribe with a 14.1, while sophomore Landon Funiciello equaled his season high with a 14.0. Freshman Michael Deitz also came up big with a career-best 13.9.

Senior Steve Deutsch led the Tribe with a season-high 13.7 on pommel horse en route to helping the team equal a season-best 53.1. Junior Kris Yeager also contributed to the squad's total with a season-high 13.2, while freshman Jason Wang earned a career-best 13.2.

The College then moved to rings and posted its top score of the season in the event with a 55.8. Potemski and freshman J.J. Jindra both registered career bests with a 14.3 and a 14.2, respectively, while Deutsch notched a 13.9.

Jindra and senior Dan Melzar tied for the Tribe's top mark on vault with a 13.7 to help the team record a 53.5.

In the fifth rotation of the evening, W&M totaled a 52.3 on parallel bars. Yeager led the team with a 13.4, while Potemski posted a 13.2.

The Tribe finished the meet on high bar and was led by Jindra's career-high 13.8. Deitz and Potemski earned a 13.7 and a 13.6, respectively, to contribute to the team total of 54.1.

Potemski and Jindra tied for the team's top all-around mark (79.5), while junior Futa Ikeda equaled his career high with a 79.3.

The Tribe will return to action when it competes at Springfield on Sunday at 1 p.m.
