2013 Season
Landon's combination of desire, willingness to listen with a love for learning, and hard-working dedication has created a perfect storm for his incredibly fast gymnastics development that has already resulted in his becoming a NCAA All-American with a sixth place finish on the rings at his first NCAA Championships. He earned this designation with strength and style as he had the top execution score on the rings in all three of the sessions in which he competed...Early last season Landon was on track to become one of the few gymnasts in the world to dismount from the rings with a triple back flip when his grip broke and he ended up with a significant tear of his biceps. After seven months of workouts centered on rehabilitation, he is now ready to return to action with a renewed commitment and enthusiasm...Landon also excels academically having earned two William and Mary Provost Awards along with first team Academic All-American distinction. He is preparing to follow in the footsteps of 29 of our alumni gymnasts in the past 39 years and go on to medical school after he graduates...Landon currently ranks first in our all-time record books on both the rings where he featured outstanding strength starting with an Azarian roll to Maltese and on vaulting where he was one of the few gymnasts in the country to compete a Tsukahara double back. He also ranks second in our all-time records on parallel bars and seventh on floor exercise...Landon was coached by Jeff Bleau at Gym Connection 2...He is the son of Jim Funiciello and Jeanine Mitchell and will be serving as an elected captain for the 2013 season.
