The William and Mary men's swimming team continued building momentum Friday night at the Colonial Athletic Association Championships, capping a session that included four school records with a golden victory in the 800 free relay. In the team race, UNCW clings to the overall lead with 456 points, ahead of George Mason at 408, and the Tribe has moved up into third place with 382 points.
200 Medley Relay
The Tribe got the evening started off right in the 200 medley relay, taking fourth with a school-record time of 1:30.10. Sidney Glass (Mechanicsville, Va.) led off the team, which also included Andrew Strait (Henrico, Va.), Jake Maloy (Culpeper, Va.), and Stephen Fay (Herndon, Va.). The time surpassed the old record of 1:31.11, set at the 2009 Championships, a team that also included Jake Maloy (as the lead leg).
400 IM
In the 400 IM, sophomore Andrew Strait absolutely demolished his own school record from the morning prelims with his NCAA-qualifying 3:53.00 in the championship heat. Strait finished second in the race to earn All-CAA honors. Also in the championship finals, Kemp Pettyjohn (Lynchburg, Va.) swam a lifetime-best 4:01.59 for sixth place, and moved up to third in school history. In the consolation heat, freshman Chris Dong (Chapel Hill, N.C.) swam a personal-best 57.23 for 10th overall, and improved to eighth all-time at W&M. 800 Free Relay

Kemp Pettyjohn was the first swimmer in the water for the Tribe, and passed the baton in first place after breaking the freshman 200 free record in 1:39.14.
