William and Mary's Andrew Strait (Henrico, Va.) continued competition at the U.S. Olympic Trials Thursday, swimming the prelims of the 200m breaststroke in his second of three events this week. Strait finished 122nd overall, touching the final wall in 2:24.89. On Monday, he timed 1:05.51 for 120th in the 100m breaststroke.
Strait, the Colonial Athletic Association's Men's Swimming and Diving Scholar-Athlete of the Year, completed his sophomore season with one of the finest performances ever at the CAA Championships. Over the course of the three-day meet, he set seven school records and earned two silver medals (in the 400y IM and the 200y breaststroke) and a bronze (on the 200 free relay). An NCAA-qualifier with 15 victories in 2011-12, Strait was also named to CollegeSwimming.com's Mid-Major All-America team.
The Olympic Trials continue Friday and Saturday for the Tribe. Tomorrow morning Strait will swim for the third time, competing in the 200m individual medley. Saturday, Hailey Hewitt '12 will take to the pool for the 200m backstroke.
