The William and Mary men's and women's golf programs will have a new partner beginning this fall, as the Callaway Golf Company has signed on with Tribe Director of Golf Jay Albaugh and his teams as the College's new complete golf partner.
"Our relationship with Callaway Golf will enable the players in our program to have access to everything one of the best companies in the world of golf has to offer," stated Albaugh. "Callaway continues to be one of the leaders in the golf industry and our players and program will benefit tremendously from all of the great Callaway products."
The agreement with Callaway includes providing the Tribe golf teams with unique access to Callaway's complete product line, from clubs and balls to shoes, gloves, and travel equipment. The team will also have availability to Callaway's authentic apparel lines, including shirts, pants, skirts, and more designed for use on the course and off. Additionally, Callaway is also the athletic department's first complete web partner, and will be the official featured sponsor for all things men's and women's golf-related on TribeAthletics.com.
"All of us at Callaway are excited about supporting the William & Mary Golf teams. The facilities and leadership are first class; hopefully this partnership furthers the development of what is already a fantastic program," stated Chip Brewer '86, CEO of Callaway Golf and former Tribe golfer. "As a former Tribe golfer, I have a deep affinity for the school and the team. Without a doubt, the experience I gained during my years there, both on the course and in the class room, has benefited me greatly and has contributed to the rich experiences and relationships I have enjoyed since graduating."
Founded in 1982 by the late Ely Callaway, Callaway Golf has grown from a boutique manufacturer of high-quality wedges and putters into one of the world's largest manufacturers of premium, performance golf products. Under the Callaway and Odyssey brands, Callaway manufactures and sells golf clubs and golf balls, and sells golf apparel, footwear, and accessories in more than 110 countries worldwide. Callaway sponsored golfers and icons include Ernie Els, Trevor Immelman, Phil Mickelson, Arnold Palmer, Gary Player, Morgan Pressel, Annika Sorenstam, and many more.
About William and Mary Golf – Since Jay Albaugh took over as the Director of Golf in 2003, both the men's and women's Tribe teams have experienced tremendous renewal and success, resetting team and individual records in over 30 categories (most many times over). Ideally situated in the heart of the Mid-Atlantic's greatest golf areas, the Tribe competes in NCAA Division I and the Colonial Athletic Association. The teams have a long tradition of success both on course and off, and have produced not just great teams (such as the 1981 AIAW Division II National Champions), but also great individuals like the late Mark McCormack '51, a former record-holder and founder of IMG.
