The William and Mary men's golf team began its 2012-13 season Monday at the Marshall Invitational, and stands 11th after the first two rounds at 16-over (584) just seven strokes out of the top five.  Virginia Tech holds a commanding lead over the 16-team field, shooting -20 on the day to lead Marshall by 16 strokes.  Xavier's Kory Ward hold the individual lead in the clubhouse by a stroke at seven-under (135).

The Tribe's effort on the day was led by junior Nick Schafer (Arlington, Va.), who shot one-under in the morning and 3-over in the afternoon to stand tied for 20th at 144 overall (+2).  Classmate Michael Bekken (Blacksburg, Va.) also had a round of 70 (-1), his coming after lunch, and is two strokes back in a tie for 31st.  A further two strokes back in a tie for 50th is senior Jeremy Wells (Hopewell, Va.) and junior Tanner Taddeo (Hendersonville, Tenn.), each with a round of 76 and another of 72.  Sophomore Alex Hicks (Cape May Court House, N.J.) rounded out the team effort, rebounding nicely from a first-round 81 to shoot 74 (+3) in the afternoon.

The Marshall Invitational concludes Tuesday with one round.
